  • The Radio

    The idea of the radio was first developed by Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi in the 1890's. In 1895, Marconi sent the first wireless morse code message to a source over a kilometer away.

    By 1914, Reginald Fessenden, a Canadian inventor, worked with general electric to build alternators that could sustain a consistent broadcast wave that's powerful enough to transmit voices and music over thousands of miles.
  • First Television Patent

    In 1923 Russian engineer, Vladimir Zworykin, applied for his first television patent, which he called the Iconoscope. This device could transmit images using cathode ray tubes.
  • First True Television Demenstration

    John Baird, a Scottish engineer gave the first demonstration of true television to 50 scientists in central London.
  • First Television Transmission

    Baird's new company, the Baird Television Development Company achieved its first television transmission between London and New York. Baird also was the first to have a television transmission sent to a ship in mid-Atlantic.

    The all electronic television system was introduced at the 1939 world's fair.

    Peter Goldmark demonstrated his color television to the FCC in 1946. His system produced color pictures by having a red-blue-green wheel spin in front of a cathode ray tube.
