This school specialized in working with children with a hearing impairment or those who are deaf.     The Association of Instructor of the Blind was established in the year 1870. This association focused and worked with individuals who were blind or were diagnosed with a visual impairment. This association provided an opportunity for individuals who are blind to learn and master certain goals. This also allowed them to work on their social skills along with functional daily living skills.

    Leo Kanner published the first description of early autism diagnosis in 1943. This was an eye-opener to the public and his perspective on disability. He also explains the different models and recognized the diagnostic heterogeneity.
