Legislative Act 188 authorized Southern to move from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. The University reponed in Baton Rouge on March 9, 1914.

Southern's curriculum was divided into 8 divisions: Agriculture, Liberal Arts, Business Education, Education, Health and Physical Education, Home Economics, Mechanical Arts, and Music.

In the 50s, Business and Engineering were added to the existing divisions. The divisions were reorganized into the Colleges of Agriculture, Business Education, Engineering, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

During the 1960s, the College of Arts and Sciences was divided to create the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Sciences.

The Southern University System, with its Board of Supervisors, was established.

During the 1980s, Southern upgraded and constructed new facilities as well as established new academic programs using funds provided by the Consent Decree.

During the 90s, Southern added and revamped several academic programs. Programs were accredited and facilities were added and renovated.
