    Heron's Aeolipile

    First known steam turbine. Made by Heron in the 1st century. It was a metal sphere with 2 nozzles, which release water which spins it.

    Through the 13th to the 15th century, many rocket experiments were conducted. Joanes de Fotana designed a surface-running, rocket powered torpedo.

    Chinese Rockets

    Chinese rockets were invented for war in 1232 a.d. They were the first gunpowder powered rockets, made by the Song Dynasty and used for sieges.
  • Staged Rockets

    In 1650, Kazimierz Siemienowicz designed a staged rocket.
  • William Congreve's Rocket

    William Congreve's rocket consisted of an iron case and used black powder. In 1807, the British attacked Copenhagen with 25,000 of his rockets.

    Tsiolkovsky came up with designs for the first liquid powered rocket.

    Robert Goddard launched the first liquid fueled rocket in Auburn.
