  • how rock & roll began

    in 1954 a band called Billy Haley and the Comets launched a hit smash called Rock Around The clock. This was reffered to the start of rock & roll. By 1957 other acts such as Elvis Presley and Little Richard (who sang Tutti Frutti) started to dominate the american scene. Bill Haley's band was the first to tour the world, new rock & roll craze artist such as Chuck Berry were introducing it to the black american population. this style was sometimes called "Rockabilly" .
  • The King Of Rock & Rock

    it all started during a recordong break with the song That's Alright Mama by Al Crudup. phillips realized that he was looking for. he asked if he could re-record it and within days playing it on local radio stations it became on of Elvis's first hit. By 1956-57 Elvis became an international teen idol. He sang in primetime television shows. In 1958 joined the Us army and served in germany.

    as Elvis aged he became increasingly unfit on stage an died in 1977 of a drug overdose
  • The Day The Music Died

    a plane crashed in Iowa. on board was three great rock & roll stars Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. it was reffered to as the day the music died when john mclean sang at the event in his american pie song. Buddy Holly with his black rimmed glasses appeared in the music scene in the late 1950s his hit single was peggy sue and that'll be the day. Jiles Richardson known Big Bopper sang his hit Chantilly Lace. 17 Ritchie Valens made waves with hits Donna and La Bamba.
  • British Invasion

    the beatles first made their american debut in 1964 on the ed sullivan show. other group from the UK such as The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Monkees, The Hollies, The Troggers, The Zombies, Herman's Hermits, The Who, The Bee Gees, The Kinks, and The Dave Clark Five also highly dominated the charts in the UK and america.
  • Soul

    two most notable soul record labels are Motown and Stax records. Motown records was started by Berry Gordy in Detroit, Michigan. the soul sound consist on genres of soul, R&B, Gospel, Blues, and doo-wop. Some of the most notable artist of soul are Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles,Isaac Hayes, Pattie Labelle, the Supremes, and etc.
  • Surf

    during the early mid 1960s a new genre was brought into the music industry known as surf music. this style of music uses the whammy bar and reverb. other types of surf music are vocal styles and it can be easily identified by the three part harmonies, use of falsetto voice, and the lyrics.another type is ballad which is slow and gentle . some artist that have done ballad are The Beach Boys, The Mamas and The Papas and Jan and Dean.
  • WoodStock

    it was the age of a three day music festival called WoodStock that drew a crowd of thousands and changed the history of rock & roll music. when 400,000 people converged on a dairy farm in rual new york for a three day festival of love music in 1969 they had no idea that they were creating history. performers included Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young (CSNY) and Jimi Hendrix.
