    This Act was passed by Louisiana legislature in 1809. The law required that all railroads operating in the state provide equal but separate accommodations for white and African American passengers and prohibited passengers from entering accommodations other than those to which, they had been assigned on the basis of their race
  • American School for the Deaf

    American School for the Deaf

  • Complusary Attendance Act

    Complusary Attendance Act
    In 1852, Massachusetts became the first state in the United States to adopt a compulsory attendance law. The Massachusetts School Attendance Act of 1852 specified that children between the ages of 8 and 14 were required to attend school for a minimum of 12 weeks per year; 6 weeks of a student’s attendance was required to be consecutive if the school was open for that period of time.

    Beattie v. Board of Education 1919, is about a student who drooled and had invountary controlled movements ( his mental capabilities were okay). He was expelled because his teacher felt nauseated. The court upheld the school's decision because the affect he had on other students.

    Dr. Leo Kanner was a Austrian-American psychiatrist and physician known for his work related to autism. He expressed concern about a society that causes the intellectual haves to look down on the intellectual have-nots which led many to look down on the mentally deficient child. He wrote "Autistic Disturbances of Affective Contact", this study was about eleven children that had autism.

    Brown v. Board of Education was filed against the Topeka, Kansas school board, A child was denied access to Topeka's white schools. Brown claimed that Topeka's racial segregation violated the Constitution's Equal Protection Clause because the city's black and white schools were not equal to each other and never could be.

    Mills. vs. Board of Education
    The District of Columbia excluded 7 children with exceptionalities from participating in school by expelling them. The school did this without due process and the students were not able to receive an education elsewhere.

    No Child Left Behind Act was the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). President George W. Bush signed this into law on January 8, 2002. This law holds schools responsible for the progress of all students.
