    Charlse Beck was hired as the first teahcer of physical education in the U.S in 1825. He developed a program of German gymnastics, he learned from Freidrich Jahn, at the Round Hill School in Northhampton, Massachusetts.

    All though the YMCA movement had begun in England in 1844, the first American YMCA was formed in Boston, Massachusetts. It was so successful that in 1883 a International Training School was developed.

    Hans Kraus and Ruth Hirschland published the article "Minimum Muscular Fitness Tests in School Children" in the Journal of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. The article reported the results of a study comparing the performnce of American and Europeon children on tests of minimum muscular strength.

    Prsident Council on Youth Fitness
    Gofer Cakes Commercial President Eisenhower convened a national conference of experts to examine fitness problems. The president suffered a heart attack that made him speak more on fitness. Soon after an excutive order created the President Council on Youth Fitness and Sports.
