    Phoenix Junior College

    The Phoenix Union High School District established Phoenix Junior College (now Phoenix College) in 1920 as the first community college in Arizona.

    First Football Team was formed in 1922.

    During the Great Depression of the 1930s, community college began to provide job training programs.

  • Community Colleges and enrollements soared.

    Many community colleges were build in this decade and enrollment begin to growth.

  • State Legislature in Arizona.

    In 1960, the state legislature provided for junior college districts in Arizona.

  • Maricopa County Junior College District was establish.

    The Maricopa County Junior College District was establish in 1962 by the approval of voters acquiring Phoenix Junior College.

  • Maricopa Community College was officially named.

    In 1971, the Junior College portion of the name was changed to Community College.

  • Employer partnerships and vocational trainings.

    In 1988, the Nationwide Commission of the Future of Community Colleges created partnerships with employers.
