    Vygotsky realized some kids had impairments which hindered their learning experience. A group on concerned people got together and discussed Vygotsky's term "learning disabilities" and formed the ACLD, which later came to be the LDA. It has changed in scope and offers learning assistance to both kids and adults.
  • Civil Rights Act

    Civil Rights Act
    One of the most important acts today this day, the Civil Rights Act. This act made it unlawful to discriminate against a person due to their race, color, etc. This also led to the desegregation of public schools.
  • ESEA Passed

    ESEA Passed
    President Lyndon Johnson signed this on April 9, 1965. This act helped many families that weren't as fortunate as others give their kids a somewhat better education.
  • Project Head Start

    Project Head Start
    President Johnson was really trying to help the impoverished American people. Many got together to figure something out to help these kids, which resulted in Project Head Start. If this program had not been created, so many kids would have had no education due to poor living conditions.

    Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisolm in Congress
    Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisolm was an African American woman who was elected into congress. Obviously her welcome into congress wasn't very friendly. One of her biggest roles was serving on the Education and Labor committee.

    TI released their TI-2500 Data Math product. This is a big educational and cultural advancement which changed how do math. Many advancements have spawned as a result of that, allowing us to further understand more advanced mathematics.
  • University of Phoenix

    University of Phoenix
    The University opened up fully online programs. I know this program has benefited many people, especially military personnel in overseas locations.
  • Higher Education Act

    Higher Education Act
    This act made it to where potential students could calculate how much their fees would be for a school of their choosing. It must be reauthorized every few years to keep the benefits going.
  • Quest 2 Learn

    Quest 2 Learn
    This program offers a unique learning experience for middle and high school students. They work in diverse group settings with other people to solve various game-based problems. A unique feature is that they will fail, but that's part of the plan so they can learn from it.
  • Detroit schools close

    Detroit schools close
    Many schools in Detroit cater to the less fortunate community. Basically there are not enough teachers to educate the overflowing school system and it is very upsetting. Detroit has been in the highlight for a while and it seems like not many politician care about the conditions.
