History of Horror films

  • The first horror film- "Le Manoir Du Diable"

    In 1896, film maker; George Melies created a two minute horror movie, "Le Manoir Du Diable" translated to "The Devil's Castle". This was the first horror film, creating a convention for the genre. Such as a demon figure.
  • The Sealed Room

    Edgar Alan Poe's book; The Sealed Room was released as a film, this was the first ever horror book released.
  • First coloured 3D Horror Film

    House of Wax was the first horror film to be shown in 3D and colour. Two days after the first 3D black and white horror movie, Man in the Black.
  • Horror films of the twenty first century

    Horror films have gone for a less iconic view and more of a dark genre of horror. Meaning that horror has evolved from monsters to demonic to supernatural to now which is more of a religious aspect such as the "Exorcist".
  • New types of horror films

    New horror films have been created since the first in 1896. A range of these horror films now use special effects and are of a high quality. A few films are Conjuring 2 and The newest paranormal activity.
