    Graphic design really hit the world hard during World War 1. Propaganda posters were everywhere trying to convince citizens to fight for their country. I consider this one of the main impacts graphic design has had on the world. The war lasted from 1914- to 1918.

    Paul Rand is an iconic graphic designer from the 20th century. He is known for creating some of the most iconic logos including ABC,IBM, and UPS. He is also known for establishing the Swiss style in the United States.

    Milton Glaser is one of the most well known graphic designers of all time. He is known for his I heart NY design. He introduced an eclectic, narrative style full of historical references that amalgamated illustration with vintage typography.

    One of the most notable graphic designs of the modern age is Shigeo Fukuda. He is known for his simplicity and his use of optical illusions. He is the first Japanese designer elected into the New York Art Directors Club Hall of Fame.

    David Carson is an iconic graphic designer in the 20th century. He is known for his design for Raygun magazine. He is know for using "dirty" typography which is different than the standard.

    Stefan Sagmeister is another iconic graphic designer in today's world. He is known for his unorthodox, provocative designs that tweak the status quo and question the designer’s role in society. He is known for creating album arts for popular bands like OK GO, The Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith.

Newspapers are the first way news is spread to the public and there have been some iconic newspaper headlines. For example, on November 22, 1963 JFK was shot and the newspaper headline that day was very memorable. Some others include Hitlers death, the Titanic sinking, and Obama's Election

    Another example of a work of art in graphic design would be the development of album art for music. The album art for music is a visual representation of the music on an album. There are some very iconic album arts out there. The album arts for Nirvana's Nevermind, The Beatles's Abbey Road, and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon are the most memorable ones.

This is what we use today for a majority of our designs. This allowed for the development of programs like Photoshop and Illustrator.

For example, the text for the Harry Potter films is a very iconic example of typography in today's world. Other examples include the logos for ABC, Twilight, and Pokemon.

    Posters are another example of works in graphic design. They have been used from the 19th century until now. Examples of iconic posters include the propaganda posters from World War 1 and the Obama hope posters released in 2008.
