Magna Carta
The Magna Carta is a series of written promises between King John and his subjects. The document was a way to prevent kings like King John from abusing their power in the end making the people suffer. -
The Petition of Right
The Petitiom of Right was a petition that was sent by the English Parliament to King Charles l complaining about a series of breach of laws. These laws included no taxation without the consent of Parliament, no imprisonment without cause, no quartering of soldiers on subjects, and no martial law in peacetime. king Charles l was compelled to accepte the petition but never changed his ways. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened when angry townsmen attacked British soldiers. The townsmen attacked because of their anger due to believing the soldiers where threatening their independence. The British soldiers retaliated and ultimately killed five men. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party occurred after the outrage on the Tea Act. A group of Massachusetts Patriots secretly attacked three Bristish ships at midnight and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. -
The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is a document that was written in the 18th cencurty, mostly by Thomas Jefferson. The document was written to formaly show the intentions of the 13 coloies. On July 4, 1776, America offical gained their independence after the Continental Congress voted and accepted their plea. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was the first contitution of the United States of America. Unfortunatly, the Articals ended up creating a weak central government that gave most of the power to individual states. The Articals was replaced nine years later after realizing that the United States needed a stronger federal government. -
Shays' Rebellion
Shay's Revellion was a violent rebellion of West Massachusetts famers againest the state government. The farmers started the rebellion because they were being imprisoned for not paying high taxes and losing their homes/land. The farmers potitioned to have more money printed rather than being held responsible for the state of the economey. The rebellion resulted in Massachusetts's ratification on the United States Contitution. -
New Jersey Plan
The New Jersey Plan was written along with the Virginia Plan. The two plans were written when the Articles of Confederation was not rserving the government well enough. The New Jersey Plan, however, was thrown out due to the fact that it was very similar to the Articles of Confederation and as a basis for a new constitution.
