George Washinton was born in February of 1732. He was born in the British Colony of Virginia and the eldest of 6 children to his mother. He spent a lot of his time in his fathers Ferry Farm Plantation in Virginia.

His father died in 1743 which was his first loss. He helped his mother in the plantation being the eldest. He also kept up with his studies.

Washington had an aptitude for math. He, later on, became a very successful surveyor at the age of 15.

George had an older half brother. He got sick with tuberculosis and they went to Barbados to try to help him with the warmer climate. After he returned, Washington got smallpox and he survived, but it left him with permanent facial scars. This trip was his only trip out of the United States.

Without any previous military experience, Washinton was contracted for the Commander of the Virginia militia.

He was made in charge of all the Virginia militias. He was most famous for being sent to give a message to the French. He traveled a hard 900 miles to give this message. He went through many hardships including; almost drowning, climbing mountains, and freezing. After this he retired and went back home to expand his farm in Mt. Vernon

Washington was committed by Congress to take Command of the Continental Army against the British in Boston, Although he had no previous experience for moving such a large group of people he learned on the job.

Washington had retreated his troops of Fort Washinton since there was a new commander and they brought new troops. The British brought the largest amount of troops they had ever sent overseas to America. They crossed the Delaware River to Pennsylvania.

Washington sent his troops again to New York in the Battle of Yorktown. He invaded and the British surrendered. America had officially won and became independent.

Although he didn't really want to, he was elected for president and won. He beat John Adams who then became the first vice president of the United States.

After winning the Battle of Yorktown and gaining independence America and Britain signed a peace treaty in 1783. He then retired and went back home to his family. After a few years, he was called upon to attend the Constitutional Convention of Philadelphia to draft the constitution. He was chosen to run for the first president of the United States.

He was officially inaugurated in New York City since Washinton D.C was not yet built.

After serving two terms of presidency and denying a third, Washington decided to retire. He wrote the Farewell Adress and gave a warning against political parties. He wanted the US to remain neutral and not be into foreign alliances as well. He wrote that he wanted Americans to maintain a sense of self-value and national unity. He went back home to his family and passed away at Mt.Vernon in December of 1799 of a throat infection
