    The Bet
    Eadweard Muybridge offered a bet to his pals that when a horse is in full speed all of its hoves are off the ground. His buddies accepted the bet. They set up cameras all along the track. When they looked back at the images quickly it resembled a movie. With this new knowledge the men went to make a way of creating movies.
  • Vaundeville

    Vaundeville
    The were small theaters that had very short yet dramatic films. in between these short films they would fill the time by having small acts go and perform. these events eventually led to them expanding into nickelodens .
  • "First Movie Theater"

    "First Movie Theater"
    So this place was called a Kinetoscope Parlor. These building consisted of single booth like deals that you would put your face up to and watch the "moving images". These "movies" were very short films averaging about 10-20 seconds.

    the Lumiere brothers invented the first projector. This projector displayed the motion picture onto a large screen. They named their invention cinematographe, which is where we get the names of today.

    This film was called "The Great Train Robbery". This was the first movie that told the first story. It lasted 12 minutes which was the longest film at the time.

    These were small theaters that providedfeatured films. these films were accompanied by pianos for music and sound effects. with one or two vauneville acts unlike before.

    The very first animation was "Humorous Phases of Funny Faces." This was an introduction to a whole new world of film. It took a little bit for this style of film to truly take shape in the industry but now it's one of the most popular ones.

    Our Friendly neighborhood Thomas Edison cane back into the light. He wanted a monopoly of the theater industry. Hm and a few other companies created the MPPC which aloud them to own everything thanks to he combined patents they had. These companies owned the cameras, sets, and actors.

    Nickelodeon theaters have become one of the most amazing things to do. the theaters were attracting 26 million people every week. Many people were realizing how much money can be made of of owning a monopoly of these theaters.

    As Thomas Edison owned everything, independent companies went to California. In California there was a lot of sunlight as filming took a very long time. the weather was very nice as it "never rains" in California. Not only was the weather perfect, but they were right next to Mexico. When Thomas Edison would come to town the studios would pack everything up and rush to Mexico.

    The "Jazz Singer" was the first film with sound. This first film led to the revolution in film that gives us what we have today. When sound was added the movie industry expanded even more.

    The first movie with color was "The Wizard of OZ." This was a revolution in film. Being able to see a film in color for the first time was incredible.
