    Originally know as talking pictures or talkies. First movies only included sound effects and music. Sound would soon become a standard on film.

    Because of the many scandals in1820, people asked for censorship.
    Studios followed guidelines created by Will.H Hayes. The code contained modesty and respect principles.

    It rose along with the genra of crime fiction. Film Noir is the cinematic term used to describe the Hollywood crime drama that ussally emphesizes sexual and cynical attitudes.

    Because of the growing varitaty, companies wanted to put people back in theaters, so more cinematic techniques were used.
    There were developments in technology that would shoot widescreen, would hige higher resolution and so on.

    During the middle of the decade there was a cultural revolution and Hay's Code was abolished. With this films became more experimental so we saw a rise more mature films like "Psycho"

    Worldwide rise in Cinema
    In Asia, there was a growing succes in Bollywood film due to their adventurous plots. In Europe there was a new voice in the genetation of children that had grown up after the second world war, the films were nostalgic that celebrated current life.

    There was a rise of blockbusters as well as an increase in American industry on film franchises. Especially in science fiction, horror and action genres. A lot of films took action derived from the film "Star Wars" that helped set a new usage of cinematic techiques.
  • Movies on TV screens and more

    During this decade movies were being filmed especially so they would appear on tv screens. There was also a revolution in CGI-technology that would create even greater effects. Independent studios and cinemas started to grow and the revenue from films almost doubled due to the home-vidio market.
  • Computer Generated Images

    Divestiy in film genres flourished. More documentaries were being recognized. There was improvemt in animated movies due to the technology and we saw a resurgence in comic book based genres.
  • 3-D technology

    3-D technology
    Dramatic increase in the use of 3D technology due to the success of Avatar. Many other animated movies were being released in 3D format.
