  • How it started

    It started with a bet between freinds, that at some point all of the horses legs would come off the ground.They bet a total of $25,000. He won his friends lost, and they used many camaras, put them in a line and when the hourse started running they pulled a lever and all the camaras would flash.
  • Thomas Edison

    Thomas Edison created the first movie projector along with the light bulb. He created a movie theater that was only meant for an audience of one. It was called Kinetoscope parlor which had one seating and a man cranking the video machine.
  • The Lumiere Brothers

    The Lumiere brothers were one of the first to create a short film. They lasted about 30-60 seconds and they only costed one franc. They showed their movies in France, one of the first movies they showed was a train moving.
  • Vaudville's and Nickelodeons

    They made Vuadville's which were short movies in a theater followed by a short peformance. The performance was done by a group of people either playing music or doing a skit. Than after a while they made theaters called Nickelodeons that could seat about 50 people.
  • The Great Train Robbery

    The Great Train Robbery was a twelve minute film which was a long film back in the day. It was only made up of fourteen scenes. It was co-produced with Thomas Edison.
  • Nickelodeon Theaters

    the Nickelodeon theaters attracted houndreds of people to and watch the cinema. In five years the amount of people practically doubled. They were able to make tons of money due to the amount of people going to watch the movies.
  • MPPC

    Thomas Edison created the MPPC which meant he owned everything. He owned the sets, the actors, and the equipment. MPPC means Motion Picture Patents Company.
  • East Coast vs. West Coast

    East Coast vs. West Coast
    The east coast did not have appropriate weather to make films outside. It was either to cloudy or it was raining one or the other. The west coast had perfect weather, it was always sony, as they say "it never rains in southern California."
  • Edison vs. West Coast

    Edison because of the MPPC when ever someone tried to make a movie on their own he go to them. He would rough them up and their actors. To get away from him they would go down to Mexico as fast as they could to save their equipment.
  • East coast vs. West Coast 2

    The East coast did not announce their actors names because they thought they would want more money if they became famous. The West coast did the exact opposite, they paid the actors tons of money to become famous. They thought if they became famous they would make more of a profit because of people going to see their movies.
  • Starting Charlie Chaplin

    Charlie Chaplin the famous and genius actor started making only $150 a week. But in 1917 he bacame so famous that he started making almost a million dollars a year. He was one the best silent film actors theirs was.
  • Charlie Chaplin

    In the films he made he implied the messages of social equality and good vs. evil. He made fun of dictators and other world leaders. One of his most famous films the Dictator he gave a speech that talked about why do we need to have war why not help people instead, try to be a nice human being.
