    Los Angeles is the city of film. How it became so? It all started with a bet. Eadweard Muybridge was an english photographer. When he and his friends were watching horses run, Muybridge bet his friends $25,000 that at one point, when the horse was running at full speed, all four hoofs were off the ground. Muybridge proved it by lining up camera's while the horse ran past them. Muybridge won the bet. All four hooves were indeed off the ground.

    This was considered as the very first movie theater created. It had moving images and only held an audience of 1. Tomas Edison decided to do this with the kinetoscope so that he can earn more money. Tomas Edison also invented the projector.

    The Lumi`ere brothers finally exposed Tomas Edison's idea of the projector and called it the cinematographe. They produced short films that ranged from 30-60 seconds. This idea produced many blockbuster hits.

    The Vaudeville were short skits that performed in small theaters and eventually when they would get boed off, the next would come and etc. They were also call nickelodeons because you would pay one nickel to see the skits. This would eventually turn into a channel called Nickelodeon.

    Led by Tomas Edison. Their plan was control most aspects of film distribution. Other film companies tried to compete with the MPPC. The MPPC people did not like this and ended up raiding and destroying other companies equipment.

    California became the key place to film movies rather than New York because it had better lighting. Also if other companies not-affiliated with MPPA then they could have a quick getaway to Mexico.

    Other film companies decided to pay their actors instead of not crediting them. They thought that if the actors became famous than they would want to watch that particular movie because of the actor.
  • Mary Pickford

    Mary Pickford
    Started acting between the years of 1905 and 1949. Was known as America's Sweatheart. Stared in 52 feautres throughout her career.
