The First Wedding
Before marriages established people would live in packs. Men and women would have sex with multiple partners and just to produce many off-spring. The first believed marriage occurred in 2350 BC. This uniting of one man and woman occurred in Mesopotamia, and was set to establish a "true bloodline." Midieval Europe Families
Writings in the 18th century declared that midieval Europe royalty considered their blood relatives family. However they also viewed servants and relatives living in the same home as family.

First Interracial Marriage
The first documented interracial marriage was between Pocahontas and John Rolfe. This story is not like the one romanticized, but she married to get out of captivity. For Rolfe the marriage was used as a token of peace amongst the Native Americans and white men. This event took place around 1614. The First Divorce in America
The first legally recorded divorce occurred in the colonies, in Massachusetts. The woman who filed for divorce was named Anne Clarke and her husband had been cheating on her. Denis Clarke was the adulterous husband, pledged that he did not want to return to Anne but instead stay with the woman he cheated on her with. This divorce was granted in January of 1643. Ellen Swallow Richards
The woman who developed home economics. She studied chemistry in college, and developed a passion for safety amongst the home. She was a significant figure towards modern times. She also gave insight into safe environment for kitchens in restaurants and any other aspect that would fall into the FACS category. Born in 1842- died in 1911. Polygyny in Mormon Church
Polygyny has been practiced throughout history ranging from China to the Native American cultures. However, it was first openly practiced in the Mormon Church in 1852 and it is still practiced amongst some individuals and cultures today. The Royal Family
The royal family can be traced back to 1917 as the house of Windsor. That name replaced a German name from previous reigns. Queen Elizabeth II carried on the name of Windsor throughout her reign, and the name is still carried after her death.

Legalization of Interracial Marriages
The Loving vs. Virginia act in 1967 declared the legalization of an interracial couple to get married in the US. Marrying outside of a person's race was illegal in most states before the 60s. Some lovers would spend serious time in jail or be convicted as felons. However, this change occurred due to the violation of the 14th amendment. The Family Medical Leave Act
FMLA was established in 1993 to declare rights for a person to leave work to care for a family member who is ill. This act also allows for new parents to take care of their babies whether the child is biological or adopted.
