    The Atlantis space shuttle is sent to outer space carrying a portable Macintosh to the International Space Station. The first email is then sent from outer space.
  • Attaching Files to Emails Becomes Possible.

    Files can now be attached to emails due to the work of Nathaniel Borenstein and others. Attachments can now be sent via email, although they do not always survive the journey within cyberspace.
  • Hotmail is born
