He makes friends with classmate Plato and falls for local girl Judy who unfortunatley happens to be girlfriend to Jim's tough neighbour Buzz. Buzz angrily confronts and challenges Jim to a drag race, and that is when Jim's real troubles begin. Rebel without a cause is a drama film directed by Nicholas Ray, starring James Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Minero.

    The 400 Blows is a French drama film about a boy who is having a difficult life with neglectful parents and so he spends most of his time with his best friend planning a better life. However when one of his plans goes wrong he finds himself in trouble with the law. Starring Jean-Pierre Leaud, Albert Remy and Claire Maurier and directed by Francois Truffaut.

    The Graduate is a comedy/drama film starring Dustin Hoffman, Ann Bancroft and Katherine Ross and it was directed by Mike Nicols. Benjamin Braddock has just finished college and is tring to avoid answering the question everyone is asking - what does he want to do with his life? He is unexpectedly seduced by the housewife (Mrs Robinson) and things start to get complicated when he falls for Mrs Robinson's daughter who she forbade him to go anywhere near her.

    The Breakfast Club is a drama/comedy film directed by John Hughes. It follows the story of five very different high school students (rebel John, princess Claire, Allison the outcast, brainy Brian and Andrew the jock) have to atttend detention on a Saturday. Each student has a chance to tell their story which makes everyone see each other differently and when its over they wonder if school will ever be the same. Starring Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheed.

    Ferris Bueller's day off is a comedy film starring Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara and Alan Ruck and it was directed by John Hughes. It's about a boy who decides to take a day off school by pretending he is ill and it follows what he gets up to during this day while his parents think he is at home, in bed ill. When I watched this film I thought it was a very great film filled with fun and exciting events and I think it is a good representation of what teenagers wish they could do on a day off.

    Stand by me is directed by Rob Reiner and stars River Pheonix, Wil Wheaton and Corey Feldman. This action/drama/comedy film is about a group of four boys who find out a stanger has been accidentally killed near their houses, and they decide to go and see the body. Their adventure soon becomes a defining event in their lives.

    Starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon and ben Affleck, Good Will Hunting was directed by Gus Van Sant. This drama/romance film is about Will Hunting, a boy who has a genius high-level IQ but chooses to work as a janitor and when his talents are discovered by Professor Gerald Lambeau the professor decides to help him reach his potential. However Will is arrested for attacking a police officer and the professor makes a deal to get him leniency if he will get treatment from a therapist.

    Almost famous is a comedy-drama film starring Kate Hudson, Patrick Fugit and Billy Crudrp and it was directed by Cameron Crowe. It is about a 15 year old boy who is hired by the Rolling Stone magazine to tour with Stillwater, an upcoming rock band. Target audience is teenagers and young adults.

    This is England is a British drama film starring Thomas Turgoose, Stephen Graham and Jo Hartley and was directed by Shane Meadows. It is set in 1983 and follows the story of a boy who is having trouble growing up after the loss of his father, and meets a group of skinheads who soon become his best friends. The film is based on the experiences of the director Shane Meadows himself.
  • Moonrise Kingdom

    Moonrise Kingdom
    Set in 1965, this film follows the story of two 12 year olds (Sam and Suzy) who have fallen in love and decide to run away together. They live on an island called New Penzance which is about to be hit by a violent storm and so a group of adults must find Suzy and Sam before the storm strikes. This comedy/drama/romance film was directed by Wes Anderson, starring Kara Hayward, Bill Murray and Edward Norton.
