  • Joseph Black Discovers Carbon Dioxide

    Joseph Black Discovers Carbon Dioxide
In 1756, Joseph black, based on research by Jan van Helmont into what he called 'gas' in 1630, discovered the compound Co2 and it's properties. He figured that it was heavier than air, could be poured, is a bi-product of human breathing as well as the fuel for photosynthesis. He formed a basis for many other gasses to be discovered as well as for research into climate change.
  • Jean-Baptiste Fourier Formulates theTheory of the Greenhouse Effect

Jean-Baptiste Fourier Formulates theTheory of the Greenhouse Effect
This French mathematitian and physicisist, in 1827 formulated the greenhouse effect and how gasses and other elements in the atmosphere trap heat on earth. He called it “un effet de verre,” an effect of glass because the sun comes in and only a little heat escapes. This is the fundamental idea behind all of climate change research.
  • Svante August Arrhenius hypothesised that the burning of fossil fuels would create carbon dioxide and enhance the greenhouse effect

Svante August Arrhenius hypothesised that the burning of fossil fuels would create carbon dioxide and enhance the greenhouse effect
Cobining the research of Black and Fourier, Svante August Arrhenius proposed that the carbon dioxide would create the greenhouse effect and make it more prominent. Being a respected scientist and a Nobel Prize winner, his theory was respected and is proven to this day.
  • Guy Stewart Callender publishes an influential study on the affect of burning fossil fuels on the atmosphere

Guy Stewart Callender publishes an influential study on the affect of burning fossil fuels on the atmosphere
After a long period of little or no advancement in climate change research, Guy S Callender published a report which sparked the topic once more. His report entitled 'The Artificial Production of Carbon Dioxide and Its Influence on Temperature' talked about the temperature rise of over 1 degree farenheit (0.5 degrees celcius) over only 50 years. He supposed that humans had added millions of tons of Co2 to the atmosphere because of the large affect.
  • Gilbert Plass calculates the effect of carbon dioxide on the radiation balance of the atmosphere

Gilbert Plass calculates the effect of carbon dioxide on the radiation balance of the atmosphere
Plass's calculations show us the unsound effect of Co2 on the chemical balance of the atmosphere on earth. It is one of the first studies pointing to the human effect on acid rain as well as the growing hole in the ozone layer.
  • Studies of Venus show the greenhouse effect rising temperatures to over 100 degrees celcius

Studies of Venus show the greenhouse effect rising temperatures to over 100 degrees celcius
After studies of the greenhouse effect on Earth, telescopic studies of Venus show that a very strong greenhouse effect has risen the average surface temperature to over 100 degrees celcius. It is impossible for these temperatures to be caused only by the close proximity of the sun, but rather the excessive amounts of Co2 in the planets atmosphere
  • Studies infer the possible collapse of antarctic ice sheets

Studies infer the possible collapse of antarctic ice sheets
Studies in the late sixties find that the heating of the earths temperature on average may cause melting in the polar ice sheets and thus a dramatic rise in sea levels as well and a massive change in delicate oceanic ecosystems. The effects of this are already being seen in the small island nation of Tuvalu where the sea levels there are rapidly rising affecting crop growth and welbeing of familys
  • Launch of the Nimbus III to measure earths GAT (global atmospheric temperature)

Launch of the Nimbus III to measure earths GAT (global atmospheric temperature)
The Nimbus III was launched after the catastrophic faliure of Nimbus B as it's replacement. In 1969, the sattelite reched orbit and, along with other tasks, began to measure the GAT of earth. As a project of NASA it's data was and still is freely available and thus, its measurements were used in many scientific studies of climate changer.
  • ChloroFlouroCarbon(s) are found to have a significant impact on global warming

ChloroFlouroCarbon(s) are found to have a significant impact on global warming
Numerous studies and scientists to go along with them find that CFCs have a disasterous effect on the atmosphere, in particularly the growing hole in the ozone layer.
  • Global warming charts over the 1970s show a sharp increase in temperature

Global warming charts over the 1970s show a sharp increase in temperature
Hard evidence appears as scientific papers and charts and graphs to show global warming is a true thing. Along with increases in temperature and 1981 being the warmest year on record, the public seem to accept these views all the facts seem to align.
  • Great progress is made in alternative energy sources.

Great progress is made in alternative energy sources.
Progress is made in research and development of wind turbines as well as other alternative energy sources such as solar panels. This suggests that the impact of global warming is impacting businesses as well as the avearge person. This research helps lessen the impact of the greenhouse effect.
  • Climate change becomes a popular talk topic with the release of Al Gpore's film 'An Inconvenient Truth'

Climate change becomes a popular talk topic with the release of Al Gpore's film 'An Inconvenient Truth'
Although many people disagree with the views of Mr Gore, no one can disagree with the fact that his documentary raised awareness for climate change and challenged many peoples views. Although this film is not strictly research, it is a collection of all the data researced over hundreds of years which gives many people enough knowledge to make their own oppinion.
