    John Newbery opened a book store in St. Paul's Churchyard, London. Newbery wrote and published books out of his bookstore.
  • Lewis Carroll

    Lewis Carroll's book "Alice's Adventure in Wonderland" re-printed in English countries all over the world in (1871/1977). Lewis published a second book "Through the Looking Glass", this book was written for the pleasure of children.
  • Nathaniel Hawthorne

    Nathaniel Hawthorne was a author of the first American children's literature book called "A Wonder Book for Boys and Girls" written in (1851/1893)
  • Child Labor Laws

    The Child Labor Laws were passed in 1907 which freed children to go to school.
  • US Publishing House

    The US publishing house Macmilan was launched in 1919 and was devoted to children's literature.
  • John Newbery

    John Newbery was was established by the American Library Association in 1922.

    Helen Dean Fish and May Massee were the first two female book editors in 1922 and 1923.
  • The Horn Book Magazine

    In 1924 The Horn Book Magazine was published. This Magazine was published by the Bookshop for Boys and Girls in Boston with the guidance of Bertha Mahony and Elinor Whitney.

    Culturally diverse books were at an all time low. In 1975 Harriet Rohmer established a Children's book press that was devoted to the publication of diverse and cultural experiences.
  • Lack of Diversity

    In 1988 Just Us books were founded and established to address the lack of diversity in the field. Editors such as Phyllis Fogelman who has encouraged the support of African American authors and illustrators.
