  • The Steam Car

It is said to be the first self-propelled vehicle built for road use, and was used as an artillery tractor. In 1769, Cugnot demonstrated his vehicle to government officials in Paris. It ran for 15 minutes and attained a speed of 2 miles per hour. The vehicle was of tricycle layout, with two rear wheels and a steerable front wheel controlled by a tiller.

It had a single cylindar engine. It could reach speeds of up to 10 mph (16 kph). It had an internal combustion engine. Gears were later added to go uphill as well as turn the car.

It was the first affordable automobile and was made by assembly line productions. 5 million cars were sold over 20 years and it also was the first global car. The engine had 20 horsepower and could reach speeds of up to 40-45 mph.

The three-point seatbelt was invented by Nihls Bohlin. In 1964, Studebaker-Packard was the first company to introduce seat belts as standard equipment on all of its vehicles. Soon all vehichles had them. Laws were made in some states and saftey was a major part of cars.

It will be avaliable to the general public in 2020 and is legal in 4 states already, California, Michigan, Nevada and Florida. It has $15,000 in equipment and it is the first driverless car so far. It comes in three models, the Toyota Prius, the Audi TT, and the Lexus RX450h.
