    Bob Knight is born
    The legendary coach Bob Knight is born. He is most well known for his coaching position at Indiana. He led Indiana to three national titles in 1976, 1981, and 1987. While at Indiana, Knight led his teams to three NCAA championships, one National Invitation Tournament (NIT) championship, and 11 Big Ten Conference championships. He received the National Coach of the Year honor four times and the Big Ten Coach of the Year honor eight times. In 1984, he coached the USA men's Olympic team to gold,

  • Brian Cook: Player of the Year

    Brian Cook: Player of the Year
    Brian Cook from the Illinois Fighting Illini wins Player of the Year in the Big Ten as a senior. He then went on to play professional on the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, and the Washington Wizards. Now he has been waived and plays for the Piratas de Quebradillas of Puerto Rico.

    Devin Harris of the Wisconsin Badgers win 2003-2004 Player of the Year award as a Junior. After graduating he went to play pro with the Dallas Mavericks, the New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz, and the Atlanta Hawks.

    Dee Brown of the Illinois Fighting Illini wins Player of the Year award for the 2004-2005 season as a Junior. He played for the Washington Wizards and the Los Angeles Clippers for a short time. He currently plays for in the European basketball league.

    Terence Dials of the Ohio State Buckeyes wins 2005-2006 Player of the Year award as a senior. He was signed to play in Euroleague after going unsigned in the NBA draft.

    The Ohio State Buckeyes lose the national title game to Florida. It would have been their second national title.

    Alando Tucker: Player of the Year
    Alando Tucker of the Wisconsin Badgers wins the 2006-2007 Player of the Year award as a senior. He went on to play pro at the Phoenix Suns, however, he spent a lot of time in the NBA Development Leagues. He now plays in the Euroleague.
  • Nebraska joins the Big Ten

    Nebraska joins the Big Ten
    On June 11, 2010 the University of Nebraska applied for membership in the Big Ten and was unanimously approved as the conference's 12th school, which became effective July 1, 2011. The conference retained the name "Big Ten".

    Kevin Ware breaks leg
    During the 2013 NCAA tournament Louisville Cardinal player breaks his leg. A compound break, It shocks the whole nation and that year the Louisville Cardinal's go on to beat "Big Ten" team Michigan in the final. Louisville fans and team held signs reading "Win for Ware"
