    Aritotle

384-322 BC Aristotle proved the Earth was round,. He believed in
The Geocentric Model which says the Earth is the center universe. Planets and stars were also attached shell that move around.
  • 190 BCE

    Hipparchus

190-120 BC Compiled the first star catalog. Calculated the distance between earth and moon. Came up with equinoxes, the time when the sun crosses the celestial equator.
  • 165 BCE

    Potolemy

Ptolemy-165-85 BC Claudius Ptolemy made geocentric model which was named after him. He made the Almagest book it was an eclipses catalog.
  • 1473

  • 1546

    Tycho Brahe

Tycho Brahe- 1546-1601 Made accurate and comprehensive planetary observations and measurements. Found that the stars are fixed.
  • 1564

    Galileo

1564-1642 An Italian scientist who discovered the galilean moons, the four largest moons of jupiter's 60. THe moons are Io, Callisto, Europa, and Ganymede. He also made one of the first telescopes, discovered sunspots, and proved stars are not fixed to shells.
  • 1570

    Hans LIppershey

Hans Lippershey-1570-1619 He was originally a lens maker. He was the first person to patent a telescope.
  • 1571

    Johannes Kepler

1571-1630 Created laws to how planets move. They move in elliptical orbits with the sun at one focus.
  • Refracting Telescope

Uses a lens to form an image 1608
  • Giovanni Cassini

1625-1712 First to observe Saturn’s moons. Discovered rings of saturn are separated.
  • Sir Isaac Newton

1642-1727 Invented a reflecting telescope. Further works works of Copernicus and Kepler
  • Reflecting Telescope

Uses mirrors to form image 1668
  • William Herschel

1738-1822 He discovered Uranus, found water on mars and found two of saturn's moons. He also worked with infrared light.
  • Percival Lowell

1855-1916 He discovered Pluto and studied canalis on mars. He also built Lowell Observatory.
  • Hertzsprung Russell

1873- 1967 Hertzsprung Russell diagram shows brightness and type of star.
  • Albert Einstien

1879-1955 Developed theory of relativity and found gravitation.
  • Edwin Hubble

Discovered universe is expanding using color of stars. Hubble's Law bases of big bang theory.
  • Sutnik

1957 Russians sent first earth satellite changed education system to focus on math and science. Created NASA

1981 Columbia was the first space shuttle to reach space.
  • Mars Pathfinder

1996 It was the first robotic rover on mars. It delivered data about the planet.
  • Cassini Orbiter-

1997 A probe with studied saturn and its rings. It took both measurements and pictures. The gap between saturn's rings is called Cassini Division
  • SpaceX Falcon Heavy

2018 Most powerful rocket and was able to lift 64 tons into orbit.
