The first animation was the Thaumatrope, similar to the Phénakisticope, this is an optical toy that makes you spin a single card that has a picture on the back and front, when you spin it, it creates an illusion that it looks like its together. -

The first form of animation is called the "Silent era" which had no sound in cartoons, an example of these are Felix the Cat, Bimbo, Oswald the lucky rabbit, and the old Mickey Mouse cartoons. -
Father of Animation
The father of animation goes to J. Stuart Blackton, he's known to have made the cartoon called The Enchanted Drawing and Humorous Phases of Funny Faces. he's also the found of the company called Vitagraph Studios. -
Cel Animation
The first cel animation was used in 1914 by Earl Hurd, this was used to replace hand drawn and get into color animation -
