Winsor McCay is known as “The Father of American Cartoons" he created Gertie a dinosaur. After he created precise animation McCay made it appear as though he was interacting with Gertie. An example of this is McCay would throw an apple behind the screen and a cartoon apple would appear for Gertie to catch.

The animators were promised payment bonuses for staying late into the night to work. However when the time came and the film had a major payday the animators didn’t see a penny. Instead the funds were used to create a new studio in Burbank leaving the animators to rally into the Screen Cartoonists Guild and strike back against Disney. Lasting more than two months The white House had to intervene. This resulted in the end of the strike, on-screen credit, and salary was doubled for 40-hour weeks.
