    First Idea of the Aeroplane

    First Idea of the Aeroplane
400 B.C - Egyptians gliders. At the same time china invented the kite.
  • Isaac Newton

    Isaac Newton
1687 - Isaac Newton created the law of motion, without this law of motion it would not have allowed people to create/invent airplanes.
  • First Hot Ait Balloon

    First Hot Ait Balloon
In 1783, the first hot air balloon was created. This was where a large balloon was filled with a gas lighter than air so that it could float but the problem with this was that you couldn’t control where you moved and how fast you moved. You depended entirely on the wind and getting down safely was also a problem.
  • First Development of Aeroplane

In 1799, the first development of an airplane was created by a man called Sir George Cayley. It was basically a large kite with a stick and a moveable tail. But all the concepts of an aeroplane were there. There was a propulsion system, fixed wings and controllable surface.
  • First Attempt

    First Attempt
In 1847, Felix du Temple was the first one to attempt powered flight as he jumped of the end of a ramp in a steam-driven monoplane (a plane with one pair of wings).
  • Sucessful Take Off

Then in 1894, Sir Hiram Maxim managed to have a successful takeoff but an uncontrolled flight using a biplane. At the same time, Otto Lilienthal managed to have the first controlled flight. Using his body weight on a glider to help fly it steadily.
  • First Model with Combustion Engine

In 1901 Sameul Pierpoint Langley successfully creates the first flying model using an internal combustion engine.
  • Wright Brothers Successful Flight

    Wright Brothers Successful Flight
Finally, in 1903, the Wright brothers managed to have the first controlled, powered and sustained flight. Travelling 37m in the air.
  • 36.6 km Flight

In 1909, Louis Bleriot invented the first monoplane called Bleriot IX. The Bleriot IX completed a 36.6 km flight from Calasis, France to Dover, UK in 37 minutes.
  • First Take Off From a Ship

In 1910 the first ever take off from a ship, Eugene Ely took off from the deck of a cruiser. This followed on to 1911, where he attempted to take off from the shore and lands on a ship. This ambition had allowed armies or Navy soldiers to depart from sea.
  • Automatic Gyrostabilizer

1914 was the year Lawrence Sperry demonstrates the automatic gyrostablizer. This kept planes level and flying in a straight line. 2 years later he improved the gyrostabilizer by adding steering mechanisms to create auto pilot.
  • World War 1

Also in 1914 - 1918, improvements for the aeroplanes were needed desperately as it was about the same time World War 1 was approaching. It eas required that an aircraft needed higher speed, a higher altitude, a better shape or desgin and a better control system. This made dramatic improvements in the airplane history.
  • Airbus 350

On the 1st of Janurary 2006, the airbus 350 was made. The airbus 350 was the first ever double-decker airplane bus. It was the largest plane and could fit enugh seats for at least 555 people.
