    -Advertising first appeared as inscriptions on Egyptian tomb stones
    -Greeks engraved theater advertisements in stone around 500 B.C.
  • 18th Century

    18th Century

    -Colonial Americans used puublic message boards in town squares where merchants could advertise the sale of their services and goods.
    -Ben Franklin gretaly influenced advertising. He was the owner of the Pennsylvania Gazette, and introduced many things like the use of headlines, illustrations, and advertisements placed next to editorial items. He added pictures to advertisements in 1732.
  • 19th Century

    19th Century

    Advertising Expands
    - In 1848 it is was possible to print 10,000 sheets per hour on a printing press, so newspaper advertising grew in popularity.
    -In the 1870's techniques in color lithography fueled the poster boom of the 1800'.

    During the 20th century a web revolution began.
    - Chat rooms have been initroducedc by the internet
    - E-mails have been invented
  • 21st Century

    - Smart phones have been invented.
