Western Expansion
Millions of Americans and immigrants moved westward, looking for new opportunities such as, farming, ranching, mining and other ventures. Native Americans were forced to leave their homes leaving them displaced and losing the traditional way of life. -
Mexican American War
Boarder disputes caused a war to break out between Mexico and the United States. The United States won the war, leading to the possession of California,Nevada, Utah, and Parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. -
13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment stats that slavery is abolished and involuntary servitude. The exception being if it is a punishment for a crime committed. -
Industrialization Era
The Industrialization Era was a period of time where technology and social changes began. -
Reconstruction Era
This Era occurred following the Civil War, focusing on rebuilding the South. Millions of African American slaves were freed and were being integrated into society. Not all Americans welcomed these new policies, white supremacy groups such as the Ku Klux Klan began to form. -
15th Amendment
The 15th amendment prohibits the federal and state government from denying a citizen the right to vote based off of race, color, or previous servitude. -

Due to the increase of job opportunities, industrialization and immigration, many were drawn to living in the city or urban areas. Jobs in factories were created as the demand for products increases. Immigrants moved to the cities to seek better economic opportunities. This led people to move away and leave rural areas to go to urban or city areas. -

The Gilded Ages
The gilded ages had significant social and political changes, as well as rapid economic growth and industrialization. The railroad, steel, and oil industries increased economic expansion. There was the wealthy that focused on status and riches. Then the working class that produced the consumer goods. -
The Great Railroad Strike
Railroad employees in West Virginia experienced significant pay cuts. The workers went on strike and blocked the railroad tracks. Across the world, railroad employees were experiencing the same un fair pay and joined in on the strike. This lead to violent outbreaks. Military was called in as extra support to help keep railroads clear. The military open fired on the crowd resulting in 20 people killed. Gun fire continued killing another 20 people. -

American workers wanted more equal pay resulting in strikes and violence. Police officers tried to deescalate the riots and strikes and ended up making it even more out of control. -

The progressive movement was a widespread social and political reform. The goal was to address negative consequences of industrialization and urbanization. -
Spanish-American War
The Spanish American War occurred between Spain and the United States. Cuba was fighting for independence from Spain which lead to tension with the United States. -
World War I
World War I involved two main groups, the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. The war resulted in significant casualties and destruction. This lead to many social and political changes. -
The Flu of 1918
This global outbreak of Influenza resulted in at least 50 million deaths. Many children lost both their parents to the war and the virus leading to malnutrition and starvation. -
The Jazz Age
During the Jazz Age, jazz music and dance styles gained popularity. Jazz was the mix between traditional and rural values. -
The Great Depression
Following the stock market trash came the Great Depression. Hundreds of millions of Americans were unemployed, homeless, and living in poverty. -

President FDR came up with the New Deal to aide Americans from recovering from the Great Depression. The deal provided unemployment relief, reform financial systems, and recovering the economy. -
World War II
Unresolved issues from World War II resulting in estimated 70-85 million people dead. -
Atomic Bomb Fears
Americans were on edge about the possibility of another county launching an atomic bomb on the US. Duck and Cover was a children's cartoon video demonstrating how children can stay safe from an atomic bomb. -
Brown v. Board
Brown v. Board was a supreme court case that declared state sponsored segregation in public schools unconstitutional. "seperate but not equal"
