On July 4th 1776, congress used the document that proclaimed Independence, it was the called the Declaration of Independence. -
The Civil War
On April 12, 1861 the Confederates opened fire on Fort Sumter. This was a surprise and that caused a win for the Confederates. After many battles, General Robert Lee surrendered to General Ulysses Grant on April 9th. -
Attack on Fort Sumter
On April 12 1861, the Confederates opened their fire on Fort Sumter. The president Abraham Lincoln asked for 75,000 militiamen for 90 days to stop the uprising, but instead it just caused the beginning of a war. -
World War One
On April 6 1917, congress declared war against the Nazis. 3 million Americans that were between ages of 21 through 30 registered to be drafted, and almost 400,000 African Americans served in WW1. -
World War Two
World War Two had begun on September 1, 1939. It was an ongoing battle between the Nazi's, Japanese and America. It lasted for about 6 years. The war finally stopped on September 2nd 1945. -

In the early 1950's, Brown fought for a young black girl to be able to go to a white school. -
