    Yazoo Land Fraud

    The General Assembly was bribed to sell over $500k in land to various companies. In 1780 the legislature sold over 25 million acres to 3 companies.

    University of GA

    In 1801, the University of Ga was founded to increase the intelligence in Ga. In 1785, UGA was the first university in America to be created by a state gov. This allowed people who wanted more education to join the college (New Ga Encyclopedia)
  • Cotton Gin

    In 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, but greatly increased slaves and slave owner in Ga. By the end of the Antebellum era, Ga had more slaves and slave owners than in any other state in than any other southern state.

    Land Lotteries

    Land lotteries gave people in GA a chance to win free land. Doing so, GA sold approximently 3/4 of the state to about 100,000 famlies. This caused GA to lose alot of land and they didnt have enough land for GA's needs. (New GA Encyclopedia)
  • Sequoyah

    !n 1821, Sequoyah created a written language for natives to communicate, plan, and organize themselves to fight. The syllabus was used to print some articles in the "Cherokee Phoenix" (a newspaper) from 1825 to 1834

    Indian Removal

    In 1821, William McIntosh signed the treaty of Indian Springs, which gave away his peoples land. In 1832, the Creeks signed a treaty which said the Creeks had to relocate there territory. (New Ga Encyclopedia)

    Railroads

    In 1832, the first railroad where charted and started spreading rapidly throughout the southern states. Twenty-five years later, Ga claimed more railroads than any other state in the south. This allowed Ga to have more means of transportation and more to transport goods. (New GA Encyclopedia)
  • Trail of Tears

    In 1838 and 1839, US troops expelled the Cherokee indians. Since they left, Ga was able to expand and improve further than ever before.
