Steam Engine
James Watt creates a better and more efficient steam engine for trains and machinery. This engine helped advance the steam engines of that time and greatly increased productivity in that time. -
Declaration of Independence
The United States of America was formed as the states combined and they became independent as a country and weren't a part of the british empire. This marked the start of the America of today. -
The First Fleet
The first fleet arrives in Botany Bay which begins British settlement in Australia. Australia was discovered by Captain James Cook but it was called New Holland back then. More than 162,000 convicts were shipped to Australia between 1788 and 1850. -
French Revolution
The French Revolution was a period of radical social and politcal upheaval that affected French and modern history. It marked the decline of powerful monarchies and churches across France. -
Alessandro Volta
Alessandro Volta invents the first battery able to store electrical current. This helped to create the batteries of today with such long lasting time. Also the unit of electric potential was named after him. -
Publication of the People's Charter
The charter which was written in 1838 allowed all males over the age of 21 to vote unless they had commited a crime or were insane. Before this only 18% of adult males could males. -
American Civil War
The civil war began because the north wanted to abolish slavery and the south did not. This led to a war that lasted 4 years and ended with over 600,000 dead. Slavery was abolished after this war was finished. -
Assassination of Lincoln
President Abraham Lincoln of the United States was shot by John Wilkes Booth. It was as the civil war was coming to a close. It helped America to protect their presidents more in today's world -
Wright Brothers
Orvilee and Wilbur Wright invent the first controlled and powered, man-carrying flight. They had to redesign how they built h e plane to give them full control. This helped to create the great aeroplanes there are today. -
Henry Ford
Henry Ford produced an automobile that was within the price range of the average person. Before this automobiles were only for those who were rich. This car helped to make affordable cars that every one could have. -
Titanic
The ship known as the Titanic hits an iceberg in the north-west Atlantic Ocean. Some of the wealthiest people in the world were on the ship and also some emigrants from Britain and Ireland. It showed that even the greatest things aren't industructable. -
World War 1
World War 1 began in Europe and had about 9 million people killed. The immediate trigger for the war was when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated. This set them off and the war lasted until November 11 1918.
