    Cinematographe was invented
    The Lumiere Brothers were able to create a projector that was able to produce a show motion picture. This projector was called a cinemtographe. With this, the brothers were able to produce 30-60 seconds short films.
  • Film Exchange

    Film Exchange
    Henry Miles set up the first film exchange for the convenience of viewers. They are now able to rent movies instead of buying them. This allowed people to watch films privately or publicly.
  • The Great Train Robbery Film

    The Great Train Robbery Film
    The Great Train Robbery , created by Edwin Porter, was the first film. This film contained fourteen scenese and lasted about 12 minutes. Because of this film, new strategies like different camera positions were introduced.
  • MPPC founded

    MPPC founded
    The Motion PIcture Patent Company is also known as the Edison Trust. The MPPC eliminated the outright sale of films to distributors and exhibitors. By doing this, they replaced it with rentals.
  • Nickelodeon

    Nickelodeon creates a monopoly to contain the crowd they were bringing in. They attracted 26 million viewers each week. Films were now being seen as profits.
  • Paramount Pictures Founded

    Paramount Pictures Founded
    Adolph Zukor is one of the founders of nickelodeon. He saw that films appealed to many immigrants, and with the help from Danial and Charles Frohman, Paramount Pictures was discovered. They offered feauture-length films.

    Oscar Michaeux is the first African American film producer, and writer. This film was to help with the awareness of segregation. He is said to produve about 40 films from 1919-1948.

    Steamboat Willie was one of the first Cartoons. It included Mickey mouse and was the first to have synchronized sound. It was created by Walt Disney.
  • King Kong

    King Kong
    The flm King Kong was made during the depression to distract people from what was going on around them in the economy. The film broke all box office records. It also saved RKO from going through a bankruptcy.
  • The PCA is established.

    The Production Code Administration (PCA) was established by the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) in 1934. The PCA required all films to be submitted before being released. If a film was to not receive a seal or approval it would not be allowed to be realesed to public.
  • Fox Film was Founded

    William Fox purchased 1/3 of Nickelodeon and rieinvested his money. He purchased a small theatre in New York. His work amazed audiences from all over.
  • The First Golden Globes

    The first GOlden GLobe Ceremony was held at the 20th Fox Century Studios. The best director wa Henry King. The best picture award went to the Song of Bernadette.
