Christmas 2011 I received "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand from my grandparents and I started to read it.
-
We received a calandar in class and learned about the Hero's journey project. Being about a quarter of the way through "Unbroken" and really having respect for Louie Zamperini as a hero, I figured why not pick "Unbroken" and Louie Zamperini for the assignment!

In class, we read a chapter from John McCain's book "Why Courage Matters." The paragraph entailed Roy Benavides, who was wounded over 37 times still managed to protect his comrades and walk away alive. He received the Medal of Honor for his actions. This led the class to think about whether a hero had to be in the military do monumental feats or maybe something different.
-
We watched an interview of Kristi Quellen via Adobe Connect in class. Quellen is a member of the Peace Corps and is currently stationed in Costa Rica. Contrasting from Roy Benavides, Quellen is not considered a hero for her acts of brave valor in the face of death, but through her acts of humanity towards others.
-
I began who to interview for the interview part of the project.
-
I set up my account on the blogging service, Posterous!
-
This powerpoint consisted of us doing multiple activities regarding heroism. Ranging from analyzing commercials to music lyrics, this activity really got us thinking about all the possible acts of heroism out there.
-
I turned in my first Posterous post regarding why I chose Louie Zamperini as my hero.
-
This post entailed 3 paragraphs: Who you looked to as heroes as a child, contemporary heroes, and heroes in literature that we have read this year.
-
I finished reading the book "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand.
