We watched U-Tube videos presenting different aspects of heroism. I began formulating ideas about the characteristics of a hero and there importance in society. -
Why Courage Matters
We read the first chapter of John McCain's "Why Courage Matters" in class. We discussed hero attibutes, particularly, the courageous feat of Roy Benavidez. I began to distinguish between great people who contribute immenesly to society and those that are willing to sacrifice their life doing so. -

We watched a video in class of an interview conducted by Ms. Allen and Ms, Simmons of Peace Corp voluntee Kristi Quillen. Kristi's efforts to help others is admirable and I witnessed how to conduct an interview. -

Chalk Talk
In class, we classified and list of heros into hero types. I began to see that while other classmates had a broader definition of a hero, many of the typed did not meet my concept of a hero. -
Change the World Powerpoint
In class, we watched a music video, "Waiting on the World to Change," and listened to a poem, "Lost Generation." Both showed the importance of hoeros to society and how everyone has a hero inside themselves. -

Colonel James Dutton Interview
I set up an interview with astronaut James Dutton at his home in Freindswood, TX. Colonel Dutton piloted the STS131 space shuttle mission in March 2010 and has worked with Neil Armstrong on a number of occasions. -
