    In the prolouge of The Alchemist by: Paulo Cohelo there is a story about a lake and a boy. The boy woul go to the nearset lake and contemplate at his own beauty. One day the boy drowned and the lake became sad. Not because the biy had drowned, but beacuse in the boys eyes the lake would see its own beauty.
  • Call to adventure

    Call to adventure
    Santiago is a young sheppard that likes to travel. He thinks that his sheep are all the company he needs. He has arrived at an old church resting from his journey. He has a dream about a little boy that plays with his sheep and is about to show him where a treasure is but he wakes up.
  • Refusal of call

    Santiago decides to go and visit a gypsy. He heard many bad stories about them but he still decides that he wants to go. The gypsy tells him that he will go on an adventure that will reward him with a treasure. When the gypsy is done telling him about his dream she tells him that he will give her a tenth of the treasure.

    When Santiago leaves the gypsies place he goes to a plaza. He begains to read a new book he got and an old man starts to talk with him. santiago tries to ignore the man but he is too polite and answers the questions the old man asks. Then the old man tells santiago that he is the king of salem.

    Santiago decides to take on the journey. The King of salem asks Santiago to give him a tenth of his flock. He is unshure of his decision but in the end he decides that he wants to go and look for his treasure.

    As Santiago continues on with his journey he starts to get bad luck. He is always getting his money stolen. At the beginning of his journey when he trusted someone they turned out to steal his money.

    As Santiago continues with his journey he meets a young lady. He falls in love and decides that he wants to marry her. Altough at the begainning he was in love with a merchants daughter.

    Santiago is having to make a big decision. He doesnt know if he wants to stay with the merchant or keep on with his journey.

    When Santiago decided that he wanted to travel his dad let him. When Santiagos dad was young he wanted to travel so he acknowledged his sons wish.
  • The ultimate boon

    The ultimate boon
    Santiago realizes that he never had to travel to Egypt. All along the treasure was barried underneath the old church.

    Santiago meets a girl named Fatima. She is the most beautiful girl he has ever met and falls in love wih her instantly. She almost distracts santiago from his journey because he decides he will stay with her instead of finding a treasure.

    Santiago reaches egypt. When he goes to the pyramids and finds no treasure. Then a group of soilders come and they start to beat him up to the point that he almost dies. "As the sun rose, the men began to beat the boy. He was bruisedand bleeding, his clothing was torn to shreds, and he felt that death was near." (page 162)

    When Santiago dosent find his treasure in the pyramids he feels disapointed. He is found by soilders that want his treasure. Santiago describes the dream he had about the treasure. The soilders think he is crazy, altough one of the soilders tells him that he was not dreaming about the pyramids but about an old church in spain(page 163)
  • Freedom to live

    Freedom to live
    Santiago is finally where he belongs. He is happy with what he has. He is in spain now and he has his treasure with him. " Two years ago, right here on this spot, I had a recurrent dream, too. I dreamed that I should go to the fields of Spain and look for a ruined church where shepards and their sheep slept. In my dream, there was a sycamore growing out of the ruins of the sacristy, and I was told that , if I dug at the roots of the sycamore I would find a hidden treasure." (page 163)
