De Soto began his Journey on April, 1538 with 700 men and 10 ships. He sold all of his belongings to get supplies for the voyage.

After a year of sailing and a stop in Cuba de Soto and his men reach Tampa Bay in May, 1539.

In mid to late 1539 and early to mid 1540 De Soto headed inland in search for gold. They passed through through Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee, guided by Indians that they took captive along the way. With no success finding gold they headed back south into Alabama, trying to find their ships again.

On October, 1540 Indians surprise attacked De Soto and his men. Hundreds of Indians were killed and de Soto's men suffered losses as well.

In mid 1541 De Soto discovered the Mississippi River. This is a very important historical event.

De Soto dies from the flu in May, 1542. He got a fever in early 1542.
