In 1993, BRFSS becomes nationwide with questionnaires redesigned to include core questions. There were an estimated 100,000 interviews completed.

Core topics of smoking, alcohol use, physical inactivity, diet, seat belt use, and hypertension were developed by the CDC as a core questionnaire to be compared across the states.

Heart Matters hired a new analyst to review the data and focus on Alabama. The analyst discovered the CSV file contained characters that were unreadable by SQL during the migration. Some rows of data didn't import into the database resulting in data loss.
