First major action of the British Expeditionary Force in WW I. Fought between Britain & Germany, the battle gave control of Mons to the Germans when Britain and France were forced to retreat. -
Battle of Sarikamish - Middle East
This battle wsa fought between the Russians and Ottomans, ending in Russian victory. The Ottoman troops, ill-prepared for winter conditions, suffered major casualties in the Allahuekber Mountains, leading to their swift loss in the main battle. -
Battle of Qurna - Middle East
Fought between the British & Ottomans, this battle ended in the British obtaining a secure frontline in Mesopotamia. This was an important strategic location, and allowed for the British to secure Basra, an important oil refinery center. The victory lasted a long time, and the Ottomans later tried (and failed) to retake the position. -
First Battle of the Isonzo - Europe
This battle was fought between the armies of Austria-Hungary and Italy. The Italians sought to drive the Austrians away from its defensive positions along the Soča. The battle ended in Austrian victory, because the Italians employed direct assaults, while the Austrains played it smarter. The Austrians were outmanned by nearly 2:1. -
Battle of the Rufiji Delta - Africa
This was a naval battle fought between the Germans and British, in modern-day Tanzania. The battles were simply several repeated efforts to sink the German warship Königsberg. The battle ended in British victory, when the Germans' ship was sunk. -
Battle of Krivolak - Asia
Fought between the forces of Bulgaria and France, this battle's goal was to cut the Bulgarians off from their only source of outside supplies. It ended in French victory. In the aftermath, Bulgaria's general ordered a retreat and secceded the land to France. -
Battle of Koprukoy - Europe
The Battle of Koprukoy was between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire, and occurred in Erzurum. The Russians were able to catch the Ottomans completely off-guard, pushing them farther out of Erzurum. Even with the Ottoman counter-attack days later, they could not retake the land. -
Battle of Asiago - Europe
Italy and Austria-Hungary were involved in this battle in Vento, Italy. The suprise attack was performed by Austria, but still was not enough to throw the Italians from their land, ending in a defensive victory for Italy. -
Battle of Caporetto - Europe
Fought between the Germany-allied Austria-Hungary and Italy, this battle took place in Austria-Hungary. Germany's use of poison gas in war gave it the upperhand. Due to this, Italy's Second Army collapsed. 265,000 Italian POWs were taken by Germany. -
Battle of Jerusalem - Middle East
This battle was fought between the Britsh Empire and the Germans & Ottomans. It ended in a decisive British victory. This victory gave Britain control of Jerusalem and a new forified line. THis made Britain and even bigger threat in war. -
Battle of Sardarapat - Middle East
Fought between Armenia and the Ottomans, this battle wsa fought in Armavir. A week in, a desicive Armenian victory wsa declared, leading to the Armenians surviving the war. Battle of Courtrai - Europe
THis battle was fought in Ypres, Belgium, between the allied Belgium, Britain, France, and America versus Germany. The battle marked the final casualties of WW I, and ended in the signing of the Armistice. The Germans suffered massive losses in teh Battle. -
