  • Doolittle's Raid

    Doolittle's Raid was a planned bombing on Japan. Statistically the plan would be a failure. However, the plan did something symbolic for America. The Raid was important because it increased America's moral because we were actually doing something. Secondly, Japan realized that it needed greater defense, and spent more money into fortifications.
  • Battle of Midway

    The United States intercepted a Japanese messagte, telling of the invasion that was awaiting to go to Midway. The U.S. set up an ambush, resulting in the complete destruction of the Japanese fleet when they came to attack. The significance was that America had a turning point and we were now on the offensive. Also, Japan was made to go on the defense.

    The Battle of Stalingrad was a battle between USSR and Germany. The Soviets lost 1,000,000 people while Germany lost 200,00. The battle was important becuase it was the turning point for the USSR. Russia became vengeful, resulting in them sweeping across Europe.

    The battle of the Atlantic was a naval "battle" where German u=-boatsa destroyed everything This resulyted in less trade form America to Europe and more ships being destroyed.

    Operation Huskey was the Allied invasion in Italy. This was significant becuase Italy gave up without much fight and then declared war against Germany. Also, their dictator, Mussolini, was arrested.

    D-Day was the allied storming of beaches in Normandy, France. The importance of it was that the allies advanced towards Germany. Also, during D-Day, the Allies controlled roads that prevented German transporting.

    The Battle of the Buldge was Germany's last chance at defeating the Allies. They sent all of their supplies and materials there, but the Allies came out on top. This was important because the Allied line had "Buldges" in them. Another importance was that Germany had a little fighting force left, becuase they could not replenish their resources.

    Truman decides to go with the Manhattan Project to bomb Japan. This results in less American lives being lost and the Allied vitory over Japan
  • Bombing of Dresden and Hamburg

    The bombing of Dresden and Hamburg was a horrific bombing. Dresden got hit with 625 bombs in one night. 100,000 died and both cities were reduced to ashes. these two bombings were significant because Britain saw how horrible the bombing was and kinda felt bad about it, but the bombings continued. Britain didn't want to completley destroy towns and kill citizens.

    The Battle of Okinawa was an inch by inch fight that resulted in 120,00 Japanese deaths and only 12,00 American deaths. The importance of this was that America got closer to Japan's mainland. Also, it was strategic resource for America.
