On October 28th, the stock market crashed. Today it is known has Black Tuesday. The stock market crashed even though it was having one of its best years earlier than year, but the market began slowing and eventually caused the major stock market crash. Even though the stock market officially went for the worst on Black Tuesday it actually took about 5 days for the stock market to completely crash.

In 1930 the banks began to fail, because so many people were trying to get their money out of the bank, before there was no money left in the bank. There was no insurance for banks back then, if they ran out of money people were out of luck. Banks started to run out of money, meaning thousands of people were stripped of their life savings. This devastated many families in America.

Dust from overplowed lands starts to become a problem because it is so dry. There are no trees or grass to hold the dirt in the ground. The wind starts to carry the dust around because there is nothing holding it down. Dust storms start to become frequent. 14 sand storms went to 38 in about a year.

Roosevelt starts to try to rebuild the economy, and help prevent the dust storms in the midwest. The Emergency Farm Mortgage Act was to help people refinance mortgages. A soil erosion control camp was built in June 18 1933 to help prevent some of the dust storms happening in the midwest. The government gave farmer's agricultural commodities to help them during these rough times with the dust storms. Million of pigs were slaughter later in the year.

Huey Long, Governor of Louisiana creates the "Share Our Wealth" movement, in hopes he can help the needy. The Securities and Exchange Commission is created to help moderate the stock market, and to make sure it does not crash again. The Corporate Bankruptcy Act becomes a law in hopes that banks will never again run out of money to give out to people who put money in the bank.

The DRS bought cattle for $20 a head instead of the $14 head farmers would usually get, because they wanted to control the cattle population. Farmers did not like this, but it saved a lot of them avoid bankruptcy. For many farmers, this was a blessing for them, and it helped them survive.

If the law passes it will allow farmers to set up their own soil conservation districts. These districts would recognize farming habits that need to be accepted in order to stop the dust storms from coming. The conservation law put in place by the district would be enforced by people in the district. This makes it so people obey the law each district sets for the area.

The project is a plan to plant a 100 mile wild zone from Canada to Texas in hopes prevent future dust storms from arising. The trees were planted along fence lines to prevent the dust storms from doing a lot of damage to houses. Red cedar and green ash were the trees mostly being planted. The Civilian Conservation Corps paid people as an assentive to plant more trees.

The act was put in place so banks could not take away farmer's land in the time of need. This was put in place so banks could not take advantage of poor farmers, to save themselves in a time of need. Unemployment also lowers to 19% making all the efforts to revive the economy a success.

In the fall, the Great Depression ends, the drought also ends because it finally rains. The midwest becomes productive once again, thanks to all of the efforts the people made and the government made to help cure the land from the dust. This all happened just before WWII begins, so there will be plenty of jobs available for people in the future
