The construction of the Kurt's Country Club started in April of 1947 in Salem, South Dakota

After three years of building the golf course it is finally ready to be golfed on.

The PGA tour saw how good this course was and the first tournement was called The Kurt's Country Club Open.

At the end of the 1974 season the Kurt's Country Club was named Golf Course of the Year by the PGA tour.

In 1975 the Kurt's Country Club was the first ever golf course to hold the U.S. Open in South Dakota.

In 1980 the Kurt's Country Club had enough profits to build on a second time by building a restaurant.

On August 23 1997 the Kurt's Country Club held the first ever PGA Championship in South Dakota. It is also the Honorable Kurt Mentele's birthday.

On March 14th 2012 the Kurt's Country Club board passed the act to build on an additional 9 holes that is a little easier for beginning golfers. Also there will be a meeting on March 15 2013 about building a Hotel.

On August 23 2012 The Honorable Kurt Mentele turned 15 and for his birthday present the company that was made for him back in the forties is now run under The Honorable Kurt Mentele
