Sustainability Committee The FIU Climate Commitment Task Force Fulfilled the first tow years. New FIU President, Mark B. Rosenberg appointed a Sustainability Committee that consists of 6 students, 6 faculty, and 6 staff. The committee’s main charge is to recommend policies and procedures to the President regarding the integration of environmental sustainability into its operations, education, research, and outreach.

LEED Buildings at FIU Academic Health Center 3 (Nursing and Health Sciences) building opened and achieved LEED Silver Certification. Some of the features include, a partial green roof, high efficiency lighting, and ultra low flow water fixtures.

Competed in the competition division of RecycleMania. Placed 2nd in the state for total pounds recycled. FIU averaged recycling 55,000 pounds a week

Tree Campus USA FIU was the first university in Florida to recieve the Tree Campus USA designation by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Partnered with an FIU Honor's College student to hold FIU's first Electronics Recycling Drive.
Over a twoday period, over 1,200 pounds of old electronics were collected and taken to a local recycling facility. -
The process began of establishing a full-time FIU Office of University Sustainability.

The FIU Sustainability Committee funded the free bike repair shop for the IDEAS club. The office of University Sustainbility works with them to set up the shop at the weekly Farmers Market.

Give and GoGreen is a waste diversion program that happens during the time of move-out in the campus dorms. 2011 was a pilot year, and it was very successful. During one week, over 3,000 pounds of items were collected and donated to Miami Rescue Mission

First Tailgate of the season. During all the home football games the FIU GoGreen Team gathers a team of volunteers to place recycling bins through out the FIU tailgate area and the entrance points of the stadium. It has been very successfull with ovewhleming demand and we hope to expand the program for next year.

Office of Unviersity Sustainability, FIU Bikes, the FIU Rec Center, the FIU bookstore, and Kmart partnered up to promote biking as a healthy and sustainable commuter option. The event happened during the econd week of the semester for 3 days.

Baptist Hospital and FIU planted 42 trees in the FIU Nature Preserve to celebrate the 42nd annual Earth Day.

To end Energy Efficiency Week and Campus Sustainability Day, a Pabel of experts joined us for an energy savers workshop. Participants learned about simple steps they can take in their home to save energy adn money. The Panel was hosted by Florida City Gas.
