Maricopa Community College establishes their first junior college as
part of Phoenix Union High School. Weston Carpenter becomes the 1st dean of the establishment.

Legislation establishes junior district allowing county and state funding support. Going forward in 1962 the Maricopa County Junior College District is established by a vote from the citizens of Maricopa County.

1,974 student enroll in the West Valley's 1st community college housed in a temporary location. September 1966 campus opened at current location.

Three community colleges now exist within the district receiving accreditation from the Northern Central Accreditation. These three include Phoenix, Glendale, and Mesa Colleges.

Hybrid classes were introduced as a learning option, allowing traditional inperson teaching combined with online instruction.
