Gilded Age - Invention timeline

  • Railroad

    Railroad
Because of the railroad, jobs would increase, population in towns would increase, and their would be more opportunities for everyone. This changed the country because now people were able to get places much faster. The railroad system is still used today to help people transport goods or get somewhere.
  • Morse Code

    Morse Code
This was an invention that was an electrical telegraph system. Before telephones were invented, it could send messages over long distances. This was very popular and used a lot before their were phones. We don't use these today.
  • Typer Writer

    Typer Writer
Before computers, many business processes used typewriters to produce printed documents. You could use these to send letters to people. It was very popular when people needed to write information down, because they didn't have a computer. Many people don't use the type writer as much anymore.
  • Telephone

    Telephone
The telephone was invented so that people could communicate much faster. This really impacted society because now if you had a message it could take only minutes to tell someone instead of weeks. We still use these todays, but a much updated version.
  • Phonographs

    Phonographs
The phonograph is a device for the mechanical recording and reproduction of sound. Thomas Edison created many inventions, but his favorite was the phonograph. While working on improvements to the telegraph and the telephone, Edison figured out a way to record sound. This impacted the way you could hear music. A few people still use these today, but now we have phones and the radio to listen to music.
  • Light Bulbs

    Light Bulbs
Light bulbs were used for light. A light bulb turns electricity into light by sending the electric current through a thin wireThis was a huge impact because now people weren't in the dark. We still use light bulbs today almost everywhere.
  • Iron Electric

    Iron Electric
This invention is used to iron your clothes. This was used back then because they did not have a washing machine. This impacted the way people cleaned their clothes and it took less time. Many people today still use an iron.
  • Electricity

    Electricity
The electricity travels through wires inside the walls to the outlets and switches all over your house. This greatly effected many people because now they were able to not be in the dark. This was invented by Thomas Edison. Without electricity many people today would not be able to work the same way they do.
  • Radio

    Radio
This invention was a communication or sending a message through a radio. The radio was a way for people to hear the news or any important messages they were needed to know. We still use this today.
