    The White Primary banned blacks from voting in primary elections. White Primary did not violate the 15th amendment because blacks were still able to vote in the general elections. White Primary was abolished by The U.S. supreme court because it was found unconstitutional.

    President Harry Truman got rid of segregation in the armed forces by signing the Executive Order 9981. President Truman signed the order because African Americans were refusing to join the US millitary because of segregation and racism in the millatary.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    The case Brown vs Board of education involved Oliver Brown who represented desegregation of schools and Earl Warren who was the supreme court chief of the case. The result of this case was the desegregation of all public schools across America. The case also overruled the Plessy vs. Ferguson because it abolished separate but equal facilities in schools.

    Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Fred Gray, Ralph Abernathy, Robert Graetz, Martin Luther King, Jr, and Coretta Scott King were all involved in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Civil Rights Activists were protesting the segregation of buses in Montgomery and so they decided to boycott buses. On November 13 1956 the Supreme court ruled that the segregation of buses was unconstitutional and ruled that buses be integrated.

    PIcture and info The changes were slight but highly resembled the confederate flag. Such changes were the direction of the stars and the new state seal that had begun to appear on government documents. The flag was supposedly changed to commemorate the civil centinial which wouldn't happen for another five years.

    The crisis was caused by the attempt to integrate public schools in Little Rock. Thelma Mothershed, Elizabeth Eckford, Melba Pattillo, Jefferson Thomas, Ernest Green, Minniejean Brown, Carlotta Walls, Terrence Roberts and Gloria Ray were the Little Rock Nine and they were threatned by the Governor and the National Guard that they were not allowed to enter the school.

    The congregation was bombed with fifty sticks of dynamite destroying most of the building. The Congregation was targeted because the man who was behind this was a Neo-Nazi Facist and was against miscegration, integration, and communism.

    The commission was established to fix the problem with Integration. The commission found that most Georgians would rather close schools than integrate them. Also the Governor ordered several people to check out schools to see if they are desegregating or not.
  • Integration of the University of Georgia

    Judge W. A. Bootle, Hamilton Holmes, and Charlayne Hunter were all part of the Integration of The University of Georgia. Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter were accepted into the University of Georgia. A few days later a large mob formed in front of Hunter's dorm and did massive damage to the property which led to the eventual eimination of the law that allowed the state to stop funding integrated schools.

    The first freedom ride was done by seven blacks and six whites. The FreedomRiders were trying to integrate public transportation by breaking all the segregation laws. The results were that segregation of public transportation was abolished by court ruling.

    The NAACP and SNCC chose to test the law saying that segregation of public transportation was now illegal. They found that in Albany segregation of public transportation is still in effect. Most people who nonviolently protested were arrested. In December several freedom riders were arrested and jailed due to their protests.

    Information Link Picture Link Martin Luther King Jr. was involved as was his wife an the Kennedys. King, the SCLC, and the ACMHR were protesting the segregation system by pressuring the merchants. Many of the protestors were arrested including Dr. King.

    Martin Luther King Jr. and several civil rights orginization were involved with the March. They were protesting segregation and trying to make blacks citizens an dget them better jobs. Dr. King delivered his "I have a Dream" Speech at this march. The results were several civil rights bills to be past.

    16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham Bombed
    PictureInformation George Wallace, Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, CaroleRobertson, Cynthia Wesley, and Robert Chambliss were all involved. Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson,and Cynthia Wesley were killed by the blast. The church was bombed because the KKK wanted to eliminate integrated places and to express their anger and hatred to black people. Later several people that were part of the KKK were convicted and sentenced to life in jail.

    John F. Kennedy assassinated

    Lee Harvey Oswald and president John F. Kennedy were involved. President Kennedy was campaining in Dallas, Texas and was shot while in his car. Kennedy was shot while on Dealy plaza campaigning. Lee Harvey Oswald is the man who shot Kennedy while he was in Dallas, Texas.

    The Act banned the use of different voter registration standards for blacks and whites, prohibited discrimination in public accommodations allowed the withholding of federal funds from public, or private programs that practice racism. President Lyndon Johnson was the one who signed the Act in 1964.

    The Act enforces the 15th amendment and gets rid of discriminating voting ristrictions such as the literacy test or the poll taxes. It also allowed Federal examiners to give qualified citizens the ability vote. President Lyndon B. Johnson and congress signed this act.

    A riot broke in Summerhill Atlanta. The riot lasted four days.
    It was started by a police officer who shot a suspected car theif. Later the SNCC was blamed for the cause of the riot.

    Dr. Martin Luthe King Jr. was shot in a motel in Memphis Tennessee. James Earl Ray was supposedly the man who killed Dr. King. Atlanta reacted by rioting and protesting while some eve blamed President Johnson for the murder.

    Georgia Schools began integratng in 1961 but the process itself took a long time. Later schools decided to integrate grade by grade which made the process effective. The result in Georgia was a better learning environment for students and some people still protested this but not many.
