Nancy Cartwright first book advocates a new conception of the role of fundamental scientific laws in modern science. From this perspective, the laws do not describe reality. Instead, fundamental laws describe highly idealized objects in models. The correct presentation of scientific explanation is not the traditional concept of cover rights, but the "simulacrum" presentation.
