Despite all the controversy, scientists have determined that today's modern dog shares over 98% of its DNA with wolves, encouraging the theory that dogs descended from wolves as the sole ancestor. -

There are many theories that revolve around where dogs came from, but it's estimated that dogs were first domesticated from wolves around 10, 000-40, 000 years ago in Central or Southeast Asia. -
Earliest Evidence of Wolf/Dog Domestication
About 12 000 years ago in Israel, the first remains were found of a skeleton cradling a puppy in its hand. It is unknown whether it is a dog or a wolf but this is the first appearance of human contact with the canid species. Read more here!
