  • Naturalization Act of 1798

    Naturalization Act of 1798
    Allowed president John Adams to deport foreigners deemed dangerous to the country, and also increases residency requirements to 14 years.
  • U.S. Mexico War

  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
    Ended Mexican American War. Arizona was given to the United States, and $15 million is given to Mexico to end the war.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    10 year moratorium on Chinese labor immigrants. New requirements placed on immigrants already in the U.S.
  • Ellis Island Opens

    Ellis Island Opens
    Up until 1952, over 12 million immigrants entered the U.S. from Ellis Island immigration check-point
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    Granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States" including freed slaves. Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Law granted equal protection under law.

    Officialy established a border patrol as a part of the U.S federal agency

    undocumented immigrant children guarenteed right to public education
  • Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986

    Made it illegal to hire undocumented workers in the U.S.
  • Immigration Act of 1990

    Changed all the rules for deportation, allowed tempory protected status for aliens and increased number of immigrants allowed entry
  • Secure Fence Act of 2006

    Authorized the 700 mile wall border between U.S and Mexic in order to stop illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and security threats from Mexico
  • Arizona SB 1070

    Arizona SB 1070
    Police allowed to pull over and ask for registration papers if they suspect someone is an illegal immigrant. Requires immigrants to carry papers on them at all times
  • HB 2162

    Modifies SB 1070 to say police cannot investigate based on race, color, or naional origin. Also can only ask for documents if lawfully pulled over.
